Did you know that your passion and your purpose are not the same things?

Your passion is the thing you have a strong connection to, that you have strong emotions about, and are willing to suffer for. And if you ever discover what it is, it can make your life and the lives of others around you better. Seek out your passion and pursue it.

Jesus, the Son of man, had a passion for saving the whole world. He was willing to suffer for it, as He did. So, His purpose was to be made a little lower than the angels and come to earth as a man so He could suffer death for our sins.

Jesus knew His Purpose because He knew His passion. And your goal, your job, your purpose is to find a way to live your passion by any means necessary (as long as you’re not destroying the lives of others just to make your life better).

When Purpose Goes Unfulfilled

If people are unable to fulfill their purpose, they are left feeling frustrated. I first learned this truth by listening to Dr. Myles Munroe. I was so frustrated with my life. My job seemed to stall, my children were rebellious, and my marriage was on the rocks. Dr. Munroe said that when men don’t have a clear direction in life, it is as if they ‘re trapped in a maze, frustrated, and unable to move forward purposefully. Dr. Munroe was talking about me!

As I prayed to God, asking Him to show me His purpose for my life, I could hear the Holy Spirit say, “What do you want?”. I said, “I want my family back. And not just back, but better than before”. At that moment, I could feel His love for me as it t surrounded me. This is the feeling that I want to give my family. But how do you live your purpose once you have found your passion? Well, there are several different ways, but I would start by asking these three questions.

How To Know If You Are on the Right Path to Your Purpose

The three questions I ask myself at the end of the day to see if I’m on the right path to my purpose are:

1. Is God pleased with me? (Hebrews 11:6)

I know God loves me unconditionally. It is similar to the relationship you have with your parents; you know they love you, but sometimes wonder if they are disappointed because you’re not living up to your full potential.

I also know that God has predestined things for me to do, but sometimes my faith gets weak when I know I’m not walking in my purpose.

2. Is my family pleased with me? (Philippians 2:1-3)

Sometimes we can do or say hurtful things to our friends and family. Later on, we look back on that moment and say to ourselves, man, I probably shouldn’t have said or done that. Now you’ve hurt your wife’s feelings, and she’s off in another room and your kids are staying away from you because they know you’re upset. If at the end of the day, my family is happy, it was a good day.

3. Am I pleased with myself? (Matthew 22:39)

The Bible tells us to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important command. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Loving yourself is easy to say but can be harder to do sometimes because we can be our harshest critics.

Especially when we are having negative thoughts either about the things that we have done that we’re not proud of or about the things we were supposed to do but didn’t do.

Sometimes our words and actions can hurt people. And maybe at the moment, you rationalize that they deserved it.

But at the end of the day, you realize that you probably shouldn’t have said what you said that way or you probably shouldn’t have done what you’ve done.

If at the end of the day, you can answer yes way more times than the answer no to these questions, I believe you would be that much closer to finding your passion and living your purpose.

What Are You Passionate About?

So, what are you the most passionate about? What is the thing that you could do today or learn to do today that would benefit you and your family if money wasn’t an issue?

Okay, let me ask another way. What’s messed up in the world right now and what skills and talents do you have, or can learn to do more efficiently, would significantly improve your life and the lives of others?

Once you identify that thing or those things, then your purpose is to make it happen. “By any means necessary.”

That could mean putting yourself out there more, so you can network with more people.

Or working that job that you’re not necessarily crazy about, but you can save the funds you earn to start your business.

Whatever it is, once you identify your passion, then you can start living your purpose.

How To Reach Your God-given Potential

By living your life through the filters of these questions, I believe you will find your passion, live out your purpose and reach your God-given potential faster than you ever would have on your own.

As of this recording, my wife and I have been married for 21 years. And if I didn’t find my passion, which was my family, I don’t believe we would even have made it half way. Maybe even less!

Happy Spouse, Happy House

I believe she is so much happier now because she sees the way that I am with her. I don’t snap at her in frustration. I look forward to having the small talks so we can avoid the big arguments.

I’m better with my children now because I want them to feel my love, not just hear me say that I love them.

I’m in a good place at work, and now I’m living my passion in my career by making videos like these that hopefully help others find their passion and live their purpose.
